Entrepreneurial Spirit Series – Trust

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

When things don’t turn out the way tha we hoped or desire, it’s easy to lose faith and abandon trust.  However, the scripture is so clear in the fact that we can’t depend on our undersanding of a situation.  Which leads to another scripture:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

During times of crisis of faith; when we question whether the voice in our head was God’s call or our own desires; when the world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket; when things are seem completely turned upside down; and when we are all out of options, we must trust God and know that He has everything under control.  A firm belief that we are God’s children and He has a specific plan for our lives, allows us to face challenging and difficult situations.  We can stand on one of God’s numerous promises:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

True to our human nature, we typically stop reading after the promise of prosperity, safety, and a bright future.  However, we completely neglect the rest. Sure, God will prosper, not harm, and secure our future but we are to seek Him, enter His presence, and pray without ceasing.  This is not a one-sided relationship or or a slot machine that we keep feeding coins until eventually we hit the jackpot.  We have a role to play too.  When we fulfill our responsibilities then God will listen to our prayers.  We will be in commune with Him.  When that happens, the craziness of the world no longer has an impact.  We must strive to have a relationship like this because it gives us assurances about God’s ability to protect us in the storm; provide for us in the drought; and keep us in good times and bad.
